At the regular meeting on Thursday night RWM Bro. Allan Jamieson warmly welcomed Bro. Tom Davidson RWPGM who was accompanied by a large deputation from Provincial Grand Lodge which included Bro. James L Jack IPPGM and Bro. Kenneth D Kennedy PPGM and other members of Provincial Grand Lodge.

The deputation had been invited by the lodge to present Bro. John Alcorn PM with a jewel to mark his recent honorary grand rank of Honorary Grand Bible Bearer. Bro. Tom Davidson RWPGM addressed the brethren and advised them of the honour that had been granted to Bro. John Alcorn PM and afterwards was accompanied by RWM Bro. Allan Jamieson to invest him with the jewel. Bro. John Alcorn PM addressed the brethren and thanked them for the jewel.

The deputation witnessed an excellent Fellowcraft degree carried out by the visitors, Lodge Robert King Stewart No.919, who were headed by their own RWM Bro. James Paterson.

Bro Andrew Miller SPGM headed a large deputation from PGL into the installation ceremony of Bro Mark Henderson as RWM
of Lodge Bothwell Brig 1229 where they witnessed a first class installation ceremony carried out by RWIM's Bro's Gerry Furlong,
Jimmy Gemmell and Charlie Curle IPM. Thereafter the deputation from PGL remained behind to share in the Installation Harmony Board.

Provincial Grand Lodge Annual Meeting

At the well attended Annual Meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge four brethren from the province were presented with Honorary Grand Rank Diplomas. The honours had been announced by the Most Worshipful Grand Master Mason, Bro. Charles Iain Robert Wolrige Gordon of Esslemont at the Festival of St.Andrew in November in recognition of the service given by the brethren to their lodges, the province and freemasonry in general.

Three of the diplomas were presented by Bro. Tom Davidson, Provincial Grand Master and he was accompanied by Bro. David Reid , the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master of Renfrewshire East and Chairman of the Friends Group at Marcus Humphrey House in Bridge of Weir.

Monday 9th January 2012. 

Lodge New Monkland Montrose No 88

At the regular meeting on Monday night RWM Bro. Bobby Gaines PM warmly welcomed Bro.  Tom Davidson  RWPGM who was accompanied by a large deputation including Bro. James L Jack IPPGM, Bro. James Shanks PDPGM, the current commissioned officebearers and other members of Provincial Grand Lodge.

The meeting was very well attended by brethren from both within and outwith the province to witness the Ceremonial Dedication of Regalia for the lodge.  This was the first in a series of events to take place during the year to mark the lodge’s 250th anniversary, other events are planned for every month of this special year.

Following short introduction by the Bro. Tom Davidson RWPGM the ceremonial was carried out by Provincial Grand Chaplains with the Provincial Grand Senior Chaplain, Bro. Rev. Peter O Price, delivering the opening prayer and reading and the Provincial Grand Junior Chaplain, Bro. Rev. Peter Ball carrying out the remainder of the ceremonial including the act of dedication. The RWM Bro. Bobby Gaines PM was invested with the new regalia as the representative of all the lodge officebearers.

The RWM, Bro. Bobby Gaines PM thanked the deputation for their work on the evening. He then informed Bro. Tom  Davidson RWPGM that it was the wish of the brethren of the lodge that he be offered honorary membership of the lodge. Bro.  Tom Davidson  RWPGM said he was honoured to accept the offer and was duly obligated by Bro. Bobby Gaines PM who then presented him with a lodge tie, commemorative token and his membership card.  Bro.  Tom Davidson  RWPGM addressed the brethren and thanked them for this great and most unexpected honour.

The brethren retired to harmony where an excellent buffet meal was enjoyed by all.

On Saturday 11th August this year there will be a Ceremony of Re-dedication of the lodge carried out by a deputation from the Grand Lodge of Scotland to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the Lodge.

The Operative Lodge of Airdrie No 203

Bro. Stephen Campbell SPGM, headed a Deputation from Provincial Grand Lodge to the Installation of The Operative Lodge of Airdrie No. 203 on Tuesday 27th December. Stephen was accompanied on this occasion by Past Provincial Grand Senior Wardens Bros. Gary Speirs and Stewart McEwan. The Deputation was further enhanced by the presence of Bro. Paul Curran the Immediate Past Grand Master of the American Canadian Grand Lodge under the United Grand Lodge of Germany.

In an excellent Ceremonial Bro. Thomas Ronald McDougall was Installed as RWM by Bro. Thomas Donald PM and the Lodge Office Bearers were Installed by Bro. David Smillie PM.

Following the Installation Ceremony the Provincial Deputation joined the Brethren for the Installation Dinner and harmony at which the RWM presented a cheque to Provincial Grand Lodge for the PGL caravan and the RWPGM's annual Charity Appeal.

Christmas Carol Service - Hamilton Old Parish Church

Freemasons from the masonic orders in Lanarkshire joined together with their families, friends and visitors from outwith the county to hold a Christmas Carol Service at Hamilton Old Parish Church. The attendance was in the region of 250. The service was conducted by the Rev. John Thomson the minister of Hamilton Old Parish Church. The service took the form of readings and carols with the church choir performing two choral items. The readings were delivered by the heads of the orders within Lanarkshire. The congregation were in good voice and enjoyed singing the carols and hearing the excellent music.
 
The service was thought a great success by those attending and participating in the service. The congregation left the church uplifted by the words of the minister's Christmas Message fresh in their minds.

The congregation retired to the church halls for a period of fellowship together over tea, coffee and christmas mincepies. The Provincial Grand Master, Bro. Tom Davidson thanked all those attending and gave a vote of thanks, thanking the minister, organist, choir and all those who had contributed in their own particular manner to making the service a success. An offering had been taken during the service which raised over £500 which will be sent to the MS Society Scotland to further their work.

SPGM, Bro. Stephen Campbell SPGM, headed a Deputation from Provincial Grand Lodge to the Installation of Lodge Whifflet St John No. 963 on Saturday 17th December. Stephen was accompanied on this occasion by the Bro. Tom Davidson RWPGM and Bro. Norman Carnegy SPGM.

At the regular meeting on Tuesday night RWM Bro. Brian T. Martin warmly welcomed Bro. Tom Davidson RWPGM who was accompanied by Bro. James L Jack IPPGMBro. James Shanks PDPGM, BrosJames Ferguson and Stephen Campbell, SPGMs, Bro. William M Craig, PG Secretary and other members of Provincial Grand Lodge.

The deputation witnessed an excellent Fellowcraft degree carried out by the visitors, The Operative Lodge  of Airdrie No.203, who were headed by their own RWM Bro. James Callendar. The RWM, Bro. Brian T. Martin, re-assumed the chair of the lodge. The vote of thanks was given by Bro. John Hulme PM, the Treasurer of Lodge St.Andrew, Coatbridge.

The RWM, Bro. Brian T. Martin, addressed Bro. Tom Davidson RWPGM and informed him that it was the wish of the brethren of the lodge that he be offered Honorary membership of the lodge. Bro. Tom Davidson RWPGM said he would be greatly honoured to accept the offer and was duly obligated by Bro. Brian T. Martin who then presented him with a lodge tie and his membership card.  Bro. Tom Davidson RWPGM addressed the brethren and thanked them for this most unexpected and highly valued honour.

The RWM, Bro. Brian T. Martin, asked that Bro. James Biggar McLatchie be presented at the edge of the carpet, Bro. Tom Davidson RWPGM  addressed Bro. McLatchie and the brethren regarding Bro. McLatchie's service to the lodge and, accompanied by the RWM Bro. Brian T. Martin, presented him with a Distinguished Service membership diploma to mark this long and committed service.

PM Bro Scott Averall was Installed as RWM for the second time in recent years by Bro John Russell PM with Bro. Sandy Stewart PM Installing the Office Bearers in an excellent Ceremonial.

There was also an emotional farewell to PM Bro David McMeekin who is moving to pastures new after many years of sterling service to the Lodge.

Bro. Bill Perry DPGM, headed a deputation from Provincial Grand Lodge to Lodge Motherwell Caledonian No. 1228, to witness the Installation of Bro. Iain Anderson PM. He was Installed by Bro. John Lindsay PM and Bro. Jim Thom PM.

ARMISTICE DAY -  PGL PARTICIPATION
Sunday 13th November 2011.
The Provincial Grand Master and his Commissioned Officebearers accompanied by a number of brethren took part in the parade to the Cenotaph in Hamilton to participate in the Armistice Day Commemoration along with many other organisations. The Provincial Grand Master laid a wreath during the service on behalf of the Freemasons of Lanarkshire Middle Ward

Bro. James Ferguson, Substitute Provincial Grand Master headed the deputation from Provincial Grand Lodge to the Installation Meeting of the lodge. They witnessed an excellent installation ceremonial conducted by Bro. David McEwan P.M. and Bro. William Wallace P.M. who installed Bro. Robert Heggison PM as RWM. LODGE AIRDRIE ST.JOHN No.166 -  225TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
 
Sunday 6th November 2011.
The Lodge was joined this evening by a number of brethren from Provincial Grand Lodge for a Divine Service to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the founding of the lodge. The Divine Service was conducted by Bro. Rev. Thomas R. Wilson, the minister of Coatdyke Congregational Church. The service was conducted in the unique style of Bro. Rev. Thomas R. Wilson. At the end of the service the Bro. John Lang, Right Worshipful Master presented the minister with a cheque for the Church and a quaich to mark the relationship between the Lodge and the minister which had built up over a number of years.

       

 
All attending the service were invited to join the lodge downstairs for lodge hospitality. The Minister and the Provincial Grand Master were asked to cut a cake to mark the 225th aniversary of the lodge.
 
Wednesday 9th November 2011.
A large deputation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Lanarkshire Middle Ward, headed by Bro. Tom Davidson, Provincial Grand Master, attended to support the lodge to witness an historical dramatisation of an Fellowcraft Degree carried out by Lodge Union and Crown No.307 from the Province of Renfrewshire East.  The Right Worshipful Master, Bro. John Lang, gave an appreciative vote of thanks to the visiting Right Worhipful Master and brethren for an excellent performance of the dramatisation. The brethren then retired to harmony.

Friday 11th November 2011.
Lodge Airdrie St.John No.16met tonight at Airdrie for the re-dedication of the lodge. A very large deputation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Lanarkshire Middle Ward, headed by Bro. Tom Davidson, Provincial Grand Master, attended at the lodge to carry out the ceremonial re-dedication of the lodge. The meeting was very well attended.
 
The deputation was welcomed into the lodge by Bro. John Lang, Right Worshipful Master, Bro. The ceremonial of re-dedication was conducted by Bro. Rev. Peter O. Price, Senior Provincial Grand Chaplain and Bro. Peter Ball, Junior Provincial Grand Chaplain assisted by Bro. Tom McCrone, Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies and the musical accompaniment was by Bro. Morris Smith, Provincial Grand Organist. During the ceremonial the Provincial Grand Master addressed the brethren on the subject of the early days and possible origins of the lodge, the founding members, the relationship of Lodge and Town and his hopes for the future of the lodge.
 
The Right Worshipful Master invited the Provincial Grand Master to join him in laying a wreath at the lodge war memorial plaque. The brethren obesrved a period of silence in memory of departed brethren.
 
The Provincial Grand Master later unveiling a new commemorative mirror  to mark the 225th anniversary of the lodge.

   

 
The brethren retired to harmony at a celebration dinner where they were joined by Provost Tom Curley, the Provost of North Lanarkshire Council. The usual masonic toasts and speeches were given. The Right Worshipful Master, Bro.John presented the Provincial Grand Master with a generous cheque for the Provincial Grand Lodge Benevolent Fund and another cheque for the Provincial Grand Lodge Annual Charity Appeal (The Boys' Brigade). The Right Worshipful Master also presented the Provost with a generous cheque for the St.Andrew's Hospice. All the brethren attending the dinner received a commemorative token and an engraved glass.

   

 

Saturday 5th November 2011.
Lodge Murdostoun Castle No.1096 today celebrated the Centenary of the lodge at Cleland. A very large deputation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Lanarkshire Middle Ward, headed by Bro. Tom Davidson, Provincial Grand Master, attended at the lodge to carry out the ceremonial re-dedication of the lodge. The meeting was very well attended with 128 brethren signing the attendance book.
 
The deputation was welcomed into the lodge by Bro. Scott McKittrick, Right Worshipful Master. The ceremonial of re-dedication was conducted by Bro. Rev. Peter O. Price, Senior Provincial Grand Chaplain and Bro. Peter Ball, Junior Provincial Grand Chaplain assisted by Bro. Tom McCrone, Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies and the musical accompaniment was by Bro. Morris Smith, Provincial Grand Organist. During the ceremonial the Provincial Grand Master addressed the brethren on the subject of the early days of the lodge, the founding members and his hopes for the future of the lodge.

 
The brethren retired to the Masonic Temple at Carluke for the Centenary Dinner where the brethren were treated to an excellent meal. The usual masonic toasts and speeches were given. The Right Worshipful Master, Bro.Scott McKittrick presented the Provincial Grand Master with a generous cheque for the Provincial Grand Lodge Benevolent Fund and also presented him with an inscribed quaich to mark this special day. All the brethren attending the dinner received a centenary commemorative jewel.
 
The brethren were later entertained by John Rowbottom.
 
Earlier in the week, on Wednesday 02 November, lodge members were the guests of North Lanarkshire Council at a Civic Reception hosted by Provost Tom Curley. The Provost and the Right Worshipful Master addressed the brethren and the Provost presented thje lodge with a commemorative glass plaque.

David Reid, Provincial Grand Master of Renfrewshire East to present an Honorary Grand Rank Diploma to Bro. Norman M. Carnegy PM of the Lodge and Substitute Provincial Grand Master. He was accompanied by  Bro. George Kelly, Past Provincial Grand MasterBro. Bill Craig, Provincial Grand Secretary, Bro. Alastair Lowe Past Provincial Grand Senior Warden and Bro. Robert Mathew, a member of Provincial Grand CommitteeThe deputation was welcomed into the lodge by Bro.Cameron Barr RWM of Lodge St.Mary, Coltness No.31.

The presentation of the diploma showing the Honorary Grand Rank of Grand Librarian was made by Bro. David Reid, Provincial Grand Master of Renfrewshire East in recognition of Bro. Norman M. Carnegy's many years of service as Secretary of the Friends Group at Marcus Humphrey House.

They also witnessed an excellent Master Mason degree conducted by Bro. James Durnion RWM of Lodge St.Clair No.427 and his officebearers.

At the regular meeting on Tuesday night RWM Bro. William Buchanan warmly welcomed Bro. Tom Davidson RWPGM who was accompanied by Bro. James L Jack IPPGM, Bro. Norman Carnegy, SPGM and other members of Provincial Grand Lodge.The RWM accompanied by the RWPGM presented a Diamond Jubilee Diploma and congratulated Bro. James Wood who had joined the lodge in 1947 and this year celebrated 50 years since he completed his year as RWM of the lodge. Bro. James Wood was joined by lodge members and friends from other lodges in celebrating this landmark in his masonic career.

 

The lodge afterwards worked an exemplification of an Entered apprentice degree. At the close of the meeting the brethren retired to harmony.

Lodge  St.Mary, Coltness   No. 31

Bro. Norman Carnegy, Substitute Provincial Grand Master led a large Deputation from Provincial Grand Lodge to the Annual Installation of Lodge St.Mary, Coltness this evening.  The Provincial Grand Lodge deputation was enhanced by a deputation from the PGL Lanarkshire (Upper Ward).

Accompanying Bro. Carnegy from PGL Lanarkshire (Middle Ward) were Bro. Tom Davidson, Provincial Grand Master, Bro. James L JackImmediate Past Provincial Grand Master, Bro. James O Ferguson, Substitute Provincial Grand Master, Bro. Bill Craig, Provincial Grand Secretary and Bro. Peter Ball, Provincial Grand Junior Chaplain. The Deputation from  PGL Lanarkshire (Upper Ward) comprised Bro. Tom P Millar, Provincial Grand Master,  Bro. Alexander G Thomson, Depute Provincial Grand Master and Bro. John Maxwell, Provincial Grand Junior Chaplain.

The Deputation was warmly received by Bro. Archibald M Sands, Right Worshipful Master and the Brethren of the Lodge. The deputation witnessed the installation of the new Master of the lodge, Bro. Cameron F Barr, the Installing Master were Bro. George Carnegy PM and Bro. Stanley Sweeney PM both of whom carried out their duties in an exemplary manner.
