Too Sad To Tell.

As we gather here on the battles brow,

Let us make a promise; let us make a vow,

To turn from war and go to peace,

To let this curse of fighting cease,

For where is the good, and where is the glory,

In telling our children the sad, sad, story,

Of how their fathers in battle fell,

It is a story too sad to tell,

Of telling the wives there is no return,

Of the one in their hearts, for whom the passions burn,

Of telling the mother she`ll never again see,

The son that she nursed on her loving knee,

Of telling the father his son is no more,

For he`s fell on some field, on some far away shore,

So let us pray to God above to send his sons unerring love,

To give us strength to live in peace,

To let all wars, all fighting cease.

Joe Baird.
