In order to mark the restoration of the organ in Freemasons' Hall a free concert of organ music has been arranged for Saturday, 27th March at 7.30 p.m.

The organ was built by Brindley and Foster of Sheffield, England, and is now approaching its 100th birthday. In order to have it sounding its best for that occasion the organ has been fully restored by the original builders. The work was partly funded by assistance from the Heritage Lottery Fund to whom the Grand Lodge of Scotland is most grateful. The remainder of the funding came from a variety of sources not least from Freemasons far and wide.

The Grand Organist, Simon Nieminski, M.A., F.R.C.O., A.R.C.M., will present an exciting and varied program of organ music. One of the pieces will be the winning entry of the 'Organ Composition Competition' which will be performed in public for the first time.

Entrance is free to all but is by ticket only. To obtain your ticket, supplied on a first come - first served basis, please contact Freemasons' Hall (0131 225 5577) or Bro. William Craig, Provincial Grand Secretary.

New Year Message from The Provincial Grand Master.

Brethren , As I reflect on the year 2009, I again think that we in our Provincial Grand Lodge have had a particularly successful year.

I have continued to visit the Lodges within our Province and have also in the last year visited Lodges in England, Maurtius and South Africa.

I feel that Freemasonry in our Province continues to gain strength and although some Lodges are having difficult times the dedication and enthusiasm of the Brethren is reflected in the very high standard of Degree working and Installation Ceremonial which is demonstrated in our Lodges. I have been privileged to have accompanied our Lodges to England where our Degree working was very well received by our Sister Lodges in the English Constitution.

The Provincial Grand Lodge Homepage has been a remarkable success with over 30,500 visitors since 2006, it has provided a window for the outside world to view our activities. Our Lodges have donated over £140,000 to Non-Masonic Charities and £35,000 to the New Caravan Fund, easily exceeding the target of £20,000.

The Commissioned Office-bearers have been tremendous in their support and it was wonderful to be at Grand Lodge in November when the Grand Master Mason recognised this hard work by conferring the Honorary Grand Rank of Junior Deacon on Bros Angus Ross, William Perry and Alex Kelly, Substitute Provincial Grand Masters. Provincial Grand Lodge Office-bearers and Committee Members continue to support their Team Leaders attending visitations and Installations in good numbers. In Grand Lodge Bro. George R. Kelly was Installed as Grand Junior Deacon and Bro. Thomas McCrone, Past Master of Lodge Griffin No. 1254 was appointed to the Board of Grand Stewards.

In 2010 we have The Installation of Office-bearers on 5th. March in Cambuslang, The Annual Divine Service will be held on Sunday 25th. April in The Old Parish Church , Uddingston. This will be the last Annual Divine Service conducted by Rev. Norman McKee as he will retire from the Ministry in June 2010 – last year the attendance was over two hundred and fifty and I would again request a large attendance of Brethren at this most important event. On Friday 11th. June we have organised a Dinner to be held in Uddingston at which The Grand Master Mason, Bro. Iain Wolrige Gordon and Bro. Prof. Trevor Stewart will be guest speakers. (see Events Page for details). In June 2010 we will also start the procedure to Elect a new Provincial Grand Master.

Finally I would wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

James L. Jack, Provincial Grand Master.
